Default Time To Trade Brandon Bass?

What's Next For Brandon Bass? As Magic forward Brandon Bass' camp tells it, Brandon was 'promised' a major role last season which is one of the main reasons he opted for Orlando and not other situations offering similar money.

Bass found out the hard way that when you join a team contending for a title that has a returning All-Star playing in front of you, you will watch more games than you play, especially as a first-year player with Stan Van Gundy.

Early in the season Brandon struggled with the complex defensive system the Magic run and was often on the wrong side of defensive plays - that put him on the bench.

As the season progressed Brandon earned a little more time in practice, but was not much of a factor for the Magic last season. He showed flashes of his value during the Eastern Conference Finals series versus the Celtics.

Brandon's camp did not issue the 'play-me-or-trade-me' demand this summer, but they have made it clear to the Magic that Brandon needs to play or it would be time for a change.

Magic GM Otis Smith has said several times this off-season he sees a bigger role for Brandon in 2010-2011, and that at least for now is enough to keep Bass optimistic.

"I think they'll do the right thing, whatever is the right thing -- either play me next season or send me somewhere else. That's what I'm hoping," Bass told FanHouse's Tim Povtak. "I won't go through what I did last season."

"I felt like I deserved more of an opportunity than I received last season. Look at the series (against Boston when the Magic lost). I was just what was missing. I respect Coach Stan (Van Gundy) and the way he likes to play, but sometimes you have to try something different."

"I'm one of the hardest working guys on the team, so hopefully I'll have a bigger role next season," Bass said. "Right now, I'm just working on my game, trying to get better. I don't worry about things like trades. I won't go through again what I did last season."

Magic fans wondered why the team didn't pursue a marquee power forward this off-season – Otis Smith joked with reporters saying that no one had seen the Power Forward he bought last summer, so maybe Brandon will get his chance this season.
