Kevin Gregg Signs With Jays

7:30pm: Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun reports that the Jays are closing in on a deal with Gregg. Dan Horwits, Gregg's agent, tells Elliott that his client was drawn to the Jays because of the opportunity to close games. The Rockies, Marlins and Padres all expressed interest, Horwits says.

Elliott wonders if the Jays will now move Scott Downs for prospects.


7:14pm: Ken Rosenthal tweets that other Gregg suitors are hearing he'll sign with the Jays.

6:40pm: Gregg has a $2.75MM deal with the Jays that includes two options, tweets Jon Heyman of SI.com. The deal could pay Gregg up to $12MM.

1:11pm: Reliever Kevin Gregg is close to a deal with the Blue Jays, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Gregg was known to have been choosing between the Jays, Rockies, and Padres.

Gregg spent much of 2009 closing for the Cubs, and he managed to trim his walk rate and increase his strikeouts. However, he allowed a disastrous 13 home runs in 68.6 innings. Gregg will presumably compete with Scott Downs and Jason Frasor for Toronto's closing job.
