Marquis Agrees To $15M Deal With Nationals

MLB.com - Free-agent pitcher Jason Marquis is interested in joining the Nationals.

Washington expressed interest in the right-hander during last week's winter meetings.

Marquis said he can be one person who can help Washington's young pitching staff.

"Learning from those veterans, learning how to win and recognizing situations, I felt I brought that to the table in Colorado and I really helped ... De La Rosa and Jimenez, who were trying to get over that hump," said Marquis. "I feel I could bring that [kind of leadership] to a team."

Marquis went 15-13 with a 4.04 ERA in Colorado this season.

ESPN - Jason Marquis has agreed to a two-year, $15 million contract with the Washington Nationals, sources confirmed to ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney on Monday.

The deal is pending a physical.

Marquis went 15-13 with a 4.04 ERA in 33 starts for the Colorado Rockies last season.

Yeah it is nice to see them trying. What I wanna know is if this deal is 15M PER or 15M TOTAL. If it's 15M total then it's a great move for the Nats. He'll probably end up as their #2 starter tho. lol

The Nats probably had something to do w/ it too. Some teams simply have to overpay to get players to come there unfortunately.

There is gonna be a lot of steals this year too at this rate.

Yeah he does get overpaid but he is a good back end of the rotation pitcher. Like BK said, some teams gotta overpay to get guys to come to their teams too.

Yeah for real. I hoping my Cubs can get Byrd for like 3 year 4M per at this point. lol
