IBA League ReportsAs the IBA Inaugural Draft has begun so has the ERA of the Seattle Sheriffs. When League Comissioner and the board of directors got together they were putting 8 teams into this new league and when Seattle needed an owner one very bright spot came a knockin'. Jerry Sloan long time NBA player and coach took charge of the team investing in controlling stock.
"I took this as my chance to bring the glory and success of basketball back to the fine city of Seattle," Sloan said of his purchase of the Sheriffs.
The IBA commissioner new he'd be a good fit with all his success and basketball knowledge coming from the NBA. And then just when things couldn't look any better, Sloan came out of the lottery with the #1 pick.
"We couldn't have done any better, that was amazing to be able to start this league picking the first player. And who better to select at #1 then fan favorite Scottie Pippen."
Sloan is very high on his first round selection as well as his other selections already. Pippen is the team captain and leader and solid defender. He will lead the team in being defensive minded but giving them a scoring spark as well. Things got better when Sloan went with back to back picks in the 2nd and 3rd round with SG Wesley Person and PF/C Charles Oakley.
"Was I surprised to be picked so early? Hell no, im gonna be one of the best in this league, hell if i may say so I'm going to be the best forward in this game!" Oakley said.
Wesley Person was also reached for comment, "I was proud to be a 2nd round selection. I think its an honor to play for a great guy in Jerry and to play with such a great talent in Scottie Pippen. I cant wait to hit the floor with my new team mates."
The first 3 picks were later joined by fellow starters PG Kenny Anderson and C Elden Campbell, neither were reached for comment at the draft. So far in the draft the Sheriffs have also added SG Allen Houston and SF Sean Elliot.
"We're ready to take this league, we're going to get the championship hands down, no one is stopping us and definitly not getting past our defense," Oakley said with a big smile. "If anyone wants to try, theyve gotta come into my house! But thats if they get passed Scottie, Sean, Wes and Kenny."
