Default Dany Heatley to Minnesota for Havlat

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Sharks have traded forward Dany Heatley to the Minnesota Wild for forward Martin Havlat.

The trade Sunday is the second major deal this offseason between the two teams. San Jose acquired All-Star defenseman Brent Burns from Minnesota late last month for a package headlined by Devin Setoguchi.

The 30-year-old Havlat had 22 goals and 40 assists in 78 games last season. He has 209 goals and 303 assists in a 10-year career with Minnesota, Chicago and Ottawa.

The Sharks acquired Heatley two years ago, hoping he would be the piece that lifted them to the Stanley Cup. He had 39 goals his first season but only 26 last year. He also scored five goals in 32 playoff games with San Jose.

As a Sharks fan, I don't like this trade that much, but oh well.

Heater just isn't geting the love anymore. Is he too comfortable? Too rich? Say what you want about Jumbo Joe, but he showed up and carried the team this play-offs. I can't remember even hearing "Heatley has the puck" during the last series. Who knows, maybe he asked to leave again.

Maybe, I just don't like that they traded Setoguchi, and now Heatley too. They were so close with that group of guys.

I read this on Yahoo a little bit ago, it was kinda funny going around the no trade clause like that

As a Sharks fan I like this trade, Heatley has vanished in the playoffs for us and Havlat has had succes in the past playoffs

    They are different players though

    Heatley
    No speed
    Shoot first
    Durable

    Havlat
    Great speed
    Pass first
    Fragile

Also it gives us an extra $2.5M to re-sign Couture and Burns this offseason

Meh, we'll see I guess. I just don't think they had to make all these changes, but we'll see if it pays off I guess.

It'd be funny to see him traded again, that'd be 3x on a contract he signed with a NTC

Dunno how I feel bout this deal. Havlat can be a VERY good player when healthy and on but Heatley is a top guy all the time. I think he's a great role guy but doesnt work out well as THE star ya know? Guess we'll have to wait n see how this works out for both them come when the season starts

I think all around it's a solid deal for both teams.

There was no way the Sharks could move Heatley for just picks/prospects, that contract is BAD.
